This is the place for shorter reviews about manga I dont have especially passionate views about. Everything in here is most certainly still worth a read however so please do check the authors out.
The Song of Yoru and Asa - Harada
Just kind of not enjoyable. I love Harada's style It's just absolutely beautiful but for me this story didn't have most of the enjoyable aspects of a toxic relationship, only the morbid ones. There are some works of Harada that I enjoy far more. 5/10
Twilight Out of Focus - Jyanome
Twilight Out of Focus was one of the first bl's I read after being bored with the anime and I had my fun with it. Im due for a reread one of these days but what I remember initially feeling was that it didn't always read easily and a disappointment with the handling of the teacher/student relationship. 8/10.
I Hear the Sunspot - Yuki Fumino
A cute little romance. The art started off initially weak but it's lovely being able to see the artist's style develop and change over the course of the years. There aren't enough yaoi about disabled people methinks. 8/10
Go For It, Nakamura! - Syundei
What is there to even say about Nakamura that hasnt been said already. It's a textbook example for good yaoi: cute, well drawn, concise, and a little freaky. Nothing is wrong with nakamura but I dont have elaborate thoughts like many do. 9/10
Cherry Magic - Yuu Toyota
Cherry Magic might not be my favourite bl but I am incredibly happy that it has gotten as far as it has. To be this succesful is a win for all bl and the story is solid as well. The early comedy is quite funny and the relationship is very sweet. 8.5/10.
Restart After Coming Back Home - Cocomi
I think this works serves as the ideal pallete cleanser. A homely and sweet country life story among so many dark and erotic tales. I don't think I'll ever understand returning to my smaller roots as someone raised in a city but Restart shows me a kind of life to dream of. 9/10.
Pink Heart Jam - Shikke
Pink Heart Jam is another one of those works where despite not originally liking the art very much I can't help but watch to see where it goes. The setup is great and an older dark haired mysterious uke is so tantalizing... 8/10.
On Doorstep - CTK
The cover was so intriguing to me intitially but the story inside is just alright. I think the mc is cute. 7/10
Psychedelia - Hidebu Takahashi
I have much longer thoughts about other of Takahashi-senseis works. I think the confusion and mind bending aspects of whether or not the spirit is real makes this one an engaging read. As always the art is fantastic. 9/10.
The Scene Of My Rumspringa - Azuma Kaya
Decently sweet. Stories about sex workers where they're not completely shamed are nice but honestly I just couldn't get into this one. Something about it whether it be the glorification of the Amish or the common played out relationship between Uke and Seme not unhappy but not greatly moved. 7/10.
Badass - Haji
Badass is a real cute one. A nonhuman mc is always a treat I think and the action and intrigue makes it such a consistently entertaining experience the entire time. Def worth a reread soon. 9/10.
Touch Within the Abyss - Moyori Mori
A beautiful work. The way it touches upon regret and guilt moved me just so deeply while reading it. The feeling of inadequacy for your family hit close to home and I remember tearing up when I finished it. Not to mention that the art is just stunning. 9/10
Minato's Laundromat - Yuzu Tsubaki and Sawa Kanzume
I will be straight up and say that I do not like this manga. I dont think its especially interestingly written and its mostly carried by its gimmick of having a 16 year old engage a relationship with a more pathetic full grown man. 6/10.
Koucho No Koi - Panda Factory
Koucho No Koi is barely a bl anime. To be fair its a gag anime but I think it deserves a space on my page as a part of history. I giggled a few times watching it, but ultimately I like it because it feels respectful in a field which commodifies male relationships so much.
Mahoroba Chronicles - Fujitobi
Mahoroba Chronicles is a short, simple, but overall enjoyable piece. It's very much so not explicit if you're looking for that sort of thing. Its decently funny at times and the two leads play off each other very well towards the very end. The older setting and focus of the story being two monks make this work stand out among the rest. 8/10
Secret XXX - Meguru Hinohara
A perfectly pallateable story but the emotional beats dont hit as hard in this one as her other works. I'll say I absolutely adore the volume I bought from SuBLime the bright pink colouring is a breath of fresh air on the shelf. 8/10.
Black Blood - Hayate Kuku
Something with a novel concept at last. I love the lead having no face and having such an interesting idea and the world building is fantastic. Its another work with a strong focus on man vs nature instead of man vs man which I think is nice for a slower pace. 9/10
All or Nothing - Shikke
All or nothing is funny and I like it purely because of that. These two boys in the story are absolutely morons and their subsequent relationship is all the sweeter because of it. Shikke's good and this just shows their consistentcy. 8/10
Inu to Tsubame - Amagakure Gido
What an excellent work. Growing up as a queer child in a supportive household it feels tragic to see others seperated from crucial support or unable to explore themselves. Such an excellent work about grief and guilt. Made me think of my brother and smile with misty eyes. 9/10
Hatsukoi Note - Amekiri
Alright but I didnt enjoy the artstyle that much. It may sound petty or childish but I feel like I already got the best highschool romance sitting on my shelf. I guess my main disappointment is that the story dropped its interesting website idea it started with and was just loner x extroverted boy for the rest. Don't fear dear reader, I would never drop this website. 7/10
